Media Profile

Among one of the most popular fantasy film franchises, Pirates of the Caribbean is a film series based on the Walt Disney theme park ride under the same name. The films take place in a fictional historical setting; a world ruled by the British Empire, the East India Trading Company, and the Spanish Empire - with pirates representing freedom from the ruling powers.

The film series began in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which received positive reviews from critics and grossed $654M worldwide. Following the first film's great success, Walt Disney Pictures soon announced that the franchise would be a trilogy, releasing a successful sequel titled Dead Man's Chest three years after the release of the first film. The sequel proved to be a massive success, breaking financial records worldwide on its premiere date, the film was so successful that Dead Man's Chest ended up being the number one film of the year after earning $1.1 billion at the worldwide box office.

They receive the text via a media carrier such as a newspaper, television, DVD, radio or the internet.
